Scope

What this covers

A mattress collects skin cells, perspiration and dust mites for years, and it is the one soft surface in the house that is never washed. We clean it in place with a low-moisture method: a HEPA-filtered pass to lift what is loose, treatment for stains and odor, then extraction that removes the soil without soaking the foam underneath. The products are non-toxic and biodegradable, which matters here because you spend a third of your life breathing six inches above this surface. The bed is normally back in use the same night. Where someone in the house wakes congested and clears during the day, the mattress is worth ruling out.

  • All mattress sizes, in place, on the bed
  • Dust mites, skin cells and allergen reservoirs
  • Perspiration, body oil and yellowing
  • Spills, accidents and odor
  • Children's and guest-room mattresses
  • Divan bases and upholstered headboards

Detail

What a mattress holds, and how deep

The one soft surface in the house that is never washed. Exposure is seven or eight hours a night, with your face a few inches from it.

The interior is why this is a low-moisture job. Air cannot reach the middle of a mattress.

A vacuum reaches this
Skin cells and the dust mites feeding on them
Seams and piping collect more than the flat faces do
Extraction reaches this
Perspiration, body oil and the yellowing on an older mattress

Common questions

What people want to know before booking

The surface nobody washes

Sheets are washed weekly, curtains occasionally, carpet once a year. The mattress, the surface with the longest and closest contact with a person, is usually turned and nothing more. Over time it accumulates skin cells, perspiration and the dust mites that feed on them.

Waking congested and clearing by lunchtime

Allergy symptoms that are worst on waking and ease during the day point to the bedroom rather than to the season. Dust mite allergen concentrates in bedding and mattresses because that is where the food supply is. Cleaning does not cure an allergy, and removing the reservoir is the part you can act on.

Whether the mattress will be soaked

It will not. Mattress cleaning is low-moisture by necessity. Foam and spring interiors hold water for days and the middle of a mattress cannot be aired out. Enough solution is used to release the soil, it is extracted immediately, and the surface is normally ready to sleep on the same night.

Old stains and old smells

Perspiration, spills and accidents can usually be improved and are often removed entirely. Odor responds better than people expect, because most of it is bacterial rather than dye. A ring that has been there for a decade may not disappear. Send a photo and we will tell you what to expect before you book.

The method

What is in a mattress

An adult sheds skin continuously and perspires through the night, and both pass through a sheet. Dust mites feed on the skin. They are microscopic and present in almost every home, and the symptoms come from the allergen in their waste rather than from the mites themselves. That allergen is light enough to become airborne when someone sits down on the bed or turns over.

The mattress matters more than the sofa because of exposure time. You are in contact with it for seven or eight hours a night, with your face inches from the surface, breathing air that your own movement has just disturbed.

The three-stage clean

Lift what is loose. A HEPA-filtered pass over the whole surface, both sides where the mattress can be turned, and into the piping and seams around the edge, which collect more than the flat faces do.

Treat what is stuck. Perspiration and body-oil yellowing, spills and accidents each receive their own treatment and time to work. Odor is treated at the source, because a masked mattress odor returns within a fortnight.

Extract. Enough moisture to release the soil, drawn straight back out. Nothing is pushed deeper into the foam and nothing is left wet.

Why low moisture is required here

Carpet dries because air moves through and around it. A mattress is a sealed block of foam or springs inside a quilted cover, and air cannot reach the middle of it. Water that gets past the surface layer stays there, and a mattress that stays damp inside is a worse problem than the one being solved.

The method is therefore restrained. Surface and near-surface soil is removed and the interior stays dry. That is also why the bed is usually usable the same night.

What to do before we arrive

Strip the bed and put the bedding on to wash. The mattress and the bedding are one system, and cleaning half of it is half a job. If the mattress has a zip-off cover, leave it in place and we will work out whether it comes off. Clear enough floor space around the bed for a technician to work at all four sides.

Mention a child's mattress when you book. It changes nothing about the products, which are non-toxic and biodegradable either way, and it changes the order of work so the room that has to be ready by bedtime is done first.

Before you call

Frequently asked questions

Question 1: Why should a mattress be cleaned at all?

Because it accumulates dust mites, skin cells and allergens over time, and it is the one soft surface in the house that is never washed. Cleaning removes that reservoir. People who react to dust usually notice the bedroom first, because that is where the exposure is longest.

Question 2: Do you remove stains and odor from mattresses?

Yes. Perspiration, spills, urine and general yellowing are all treated, with odor handled at the source rather than covered. Results depend on how old the stain is and how deep it went. Send a photo and we will tell you what to expect before you book.

Question 3: Can we sleep on it the same night?

Normally yes. The low-moisture method leaves the surface dry within a few hours. If we clean in the evening, or the room is cold and closed up, we tell you plainly that it needs longer.

Question 4: How often should a mattress be cleaned?

Once a year suits most households, and more often where there are allergies, pets on the bed or young children. It is often booked with a carpet clean in the same visit, since the bedroom is already on the list.

Question 5: Is it safe for a child's mattress?

The products are non-toxic and biodegradable and safe around family and pets, which is why we use them on beds. Nothing leaves a residue that needs airing out before the bed is used again.

“I was extremely satisfied. The carpets look brand new, and-most importantly-everything was done right on time, exactly as we had agreed. They work very quickly and professionally.”

Tatyana German · Carpet · 5 months ago

“Because it was positioned so close to a light window, our leather couch had become lifeless, scuffed, and overall dried up. Amazing results were achieved on the material after a thorough cleaning and subsequent expert conditioning treatment. It looks really expensive, smells like rich leather, and is soft to the touch.”
