Morris County is the wooded end of our area and it soils a floor differently from the cities. Lots are larger, driveways are longer, and a great deal of what ends up in the carpet arrives on boots from a garden rather than from a pavement: wet leaves in autumn, clay through the spring thaw, cut grass and lawn treatment residue through the summer. Houses reflect that too, mudrooms, back entrances, finished basements and garages that open directly into the kitchen. The older core in Morristown, Madison and Chatham adds another layer: Victorian and colonial houses with proper staircases, deep skirtings and hand-knotted rugs over hardwood. It is a county where the entry points matter more than the middle of the room.
Entry points, not rooms
In a Morris County house the carpet does not soil evenly. The mudroom, the back door and the strip inside the garage entrance carry almost everything, and the rest of the floor gets what those three let past. Cleaning those areas well and more often does more for the whole house than a general pass over every room.
Seasonal timing
