Our commitment
Carpet Cleaning Wizards wants every person to be able to read this website, request an estimate and reach us, including people who use screen readers, magnification, voice control, switch devices, keyboard only navigation, or who need larger text, higher contrast or less motion. We treat accessibility as part of doing the job properly, the same way we treat a clean edge along a baseboard.
We are a small business with no storefront, so this website and our phone line are the two doors people walk through to reach us. We want both of them open to everyone.
The standard we work to
We build and test this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. That is the standard the United States Department of Justice and the courts most often point to when deciding whether a business website is accessible under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination separately bars places of public accommodation from discriminating against people with disabilities and names no technical web standard, and we treat WCAG 2.1 AA as the way to meet that duty online. We are not a federal agency, so Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act does not apply to us, but its technical standard incorporates WCAG 2.0 at Level AA, an earlier version of the same guidelines, and we treat it as a useful reference.
Meeting a standard is ongoing work, not a one time event. Every time we add a page, a photo or a feature, it is checked against the list below before it goes live.
What the website does today
- Every page has a visible "Skip to content" link as the first item reachable by keyboard.
- Headings are in a logical order on every page so that screen reader users can move through the page by heading.
- Every interactive element (links, buttons, form fields, the chat panel, the consent banner with its preferences panel, and the accessibility menu) can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone, in a sensible order, with a clearly visible focus outline.
- Text and background colors are chosen to meet or exceed the WCAG AA contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1 for normal text and 3 to 1 for large text and interface elements.
- Text can be enlarged to 200 percent in the browser without losing content or function, and pages reflow on narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
- Every image has alternative text. Photos in the before and after gallery describe what changed. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Every form field on the estimate form has a visible label, required fields are announced, and errors are described in words next to the field, not by color alone.
- The website respects your device's reduced motion setting and turns off decorative animation when it is on.
- The chat panel and the consent banner are announced to screen readers, can be closed with the Escape key, and do not trap keyboard focus.
- Links to the phone number open your phone's dialer, and links to our email open your email app, so you can reach us the way that works for you.
- The site does not use content that flashes, does not auto play video with sound, and does not require precise gestures.
- Pages carry a language attribute so screen readers pronounce the text correctly.
The accessibility menu
A button at the bottom left of every page opens an accessibility menu with six options: bigger text, high contrast, highlight links, pause motion, readable font and big cursor. Your choices are saved in your own browser (not sent to us) so that every page opens the way you set it. The menu is a convenience layered on top of an already accessible site, not a substitute for one, and every feature of the site works without it.
Known limitations
We would rather tell you about a gap than pretend there is none.
If you find something not on this list, we want to know.
- The before and after gallery uses photographs. We describe each one in words, but a photo cannot fully convey a color change to someone who cannot see it. Call us and we will describe any result in more detail.
- The chat helper answers from a fixed list of prepared answers and may not understand every question. Its answers are plain text and it works with a keyboard and a screen reader, but if it does not help, the phone number is always one tap away.
- Some third party pages we link to, such as our Google Business Profile and social media pages, are run by other companies and we cannot control their accessibility.
- Reviews quoted from Google are shown as written by the customers, so their spelling and punctuation are their own.
How we test
Before a page goes live and at least twice a year after that we:
We record the date of each check and what was fixed.
- Run an automated checker (axe or an equivalent) against every page and fix what it finds.
- Walk every page and form using only the keyboard.
- Read every page with a screen reader (NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on Apple devices) and check that headings, labels, alternative text and announcements make sense.
- Check color contrast with a contrast tool.
- Test on a phone with text size set to the largest setting and with reduced motion turned on.
If something is not working for you
Please tell us. We will fix the problem, and in the meantime we will get you what you needed another way.
Tell us which page you were on, what you were trying to do, what went wrong, and what browser and assistive technology you were using if you know. We reply within two business days and we aim to fix any real barrier within ten business days. If we cannot fix it that quickly we will tell you why and give you a way around it.
We accept requests for help in Spanish as well as English.
- Phone: (908) 545-9387. If you cannot use the website at all, call and we will take your estimate request over the phone, describe our gallery, read our reviews to you, and send the estimate by whichever method you prefer.
- Email: privacy@carpetcleaningwizards.com with the word Accessibility in the subject line.
- Post: the address at the bottom of this page.
Formal complaints
If you feel we have not resolved an accessibility problem, you may raise it with the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights or the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. We would rather you gave us a chance to put it right first, and we will always take a complaint seriously.
