The county splits into two kinds of work: the Somerset Hills, where older detached houses carry wool and hand-knotted rugs that get dye-tested before anything touches them, and the townhome developments around Basking Ridge and Bridgewater, where the job is wall-to-wall carpet, carpeted stairs and a schedule that has to hold because the house is changing hands.
Somerset County is where North Jersey stops being dense. The Somerset Hills, Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack, hold older detached houses on large lots, and with them the highest concentration of wool and hand-knotted rugs we see outside Bergen County: pieces where the fiber has to be identified and the dyes tested before any moisture is involved. The other half of the work is newer. The townhome developments around Basking Ridge and Bridgewater are wall-to-wall carpet on two or three floors with a carpeted staircase between each, and much of that work is tied to a closing or a lease date rather than a season. Along the Raritan, the county also has a flood history that nobody who lived through Floyd or Ida needs explained, when the water recedes, extraction and structured drying is the part we do.
Rugs of the Somerset Hills
Older houses in Basking Ridge, Bernardsville and Far Hills tend to hold the rugs that repay caution: wool, silk highlights, vegetable dyes. Every one gets a fiber check and a dye test somewhere hidden before cleaning, because a bleeding border is the one mistake that cannot be undone.
Water on the low ground
When the Raritan or the Millstone comes up, carpet and pad hold water long after the surface feels dry. We extract, pull the pad where it is beyond saving, and set structured drying, and we say plainly which carpet is salvageable and which is not, because drying the unsalvageable wastes your money.

- Manville sits where the Millstone meets the Raritan, and Bound Brook a few miles downstream where the Green Brook joins it. Both flooded severely in Hurricane Floyd in 1999, Bound Brook crested at 42 feet, its highest since at least 1800, and again in Ida in 2021, when the Raritan at Manville beat even the Floyd peak. It is the corner of the county where our extraction and drying calls cluster after heavy rain.
