Carpet cleaning in Essex County, NJ

We clean carpet, upholstery, rugs, mattresses and tile across Essex County — Newark, Montclair, the Oranges, Bloomfield, Livingston, Millburn, Verona, Nutley, Belleville and the Caldwells. Essex is unusual in how sharply its housing changes across a few miles: dense brick multi-family buildings and high-rises in Newark, hundred-year-old Victorians with steep carpeted staircases in Montclair and the Oranges, and post-war colonials in Livingston and the Caldwells. Those are three different cleaning problems. We answer the phone at any hour and book by appointment, and the visit is planned around the building rather than around a standard package.

Essex County packs a full range of American housing into about 130 square miles. In Newark you are working in brick apartment buildings and multi-family houses where the carpet takes traffic from several households and where getting equipment to a third floor is part of the job. Twenty minutes north-west, Montclair and the Oranges are full of houses built between the 1890s and the 1920s — narrow staircases with a turn in them, original hardwood with area rugs over it, and rooms that were never designed around a vacuum. Out toward Livingston, Millburn and the Caldwells the stock is post-war and newer, with wall-to-wall carpet through the bedrooms and finished basements below grade. Each of those needs a different plan, and the plan is made when we see the place, not before.

Pre-war staircases

A staircase from 1910 has a turn in it, treads of unequal depth and a carpeted stringer on both sides. There is no machine head that fits it. Stairs in this part of the county get done by hand, step by step, and they are the surface where the difference shows most because you look down at them from directly above.

Finished basements below grade

The newer stock west of the Oranges almost all has a finished lower level, and below-grade carpet stays cooler and damper than the rest of the house. It dries more slowly, it holds odor longer, and it is the first place to check after any plumbing problem upstairs.

The visit

How a visit works in Essex County

  1. 01

You tell us what is on the floor

Call, or send a photograph of the worst patch. It is the fastest way to a straight answer about what will lift and what will not — and if something is not coming out, we would rather say so now than at the door.

  2. 02

    We test before we clean

Fabric and rug dyes get tested somewhere nobody looks, and the fiber decides the method. This is the step that prevents the two things people actually fear: shrinkage and color bleeding.

  3. 03

Extraction, then the parts a machine cannot reach

Heated solution goes into the pile and comes straight back out with the soil. Stairs, edges and corners are worked by hand afterwards, because no machine head sits flat on a stair tread.

Questions

Asked in Essex County

Do you cover all of Essex County?

Yes — from Newark and the Ironbound up through Bloomfield and Nutley, across Montclair and the Oranges, and out to Livingston, Millburn, Short Hills and the Caldwells. If you are in Essex County, we come to you.

Can you get equipment up to a third-floor apartment?

Yes. Plenty of Newark and East Orange buildings have no elevator and we plan for it. Mention the floor and whether there is an elevator when you book, so the visit is scheduled with enough time.

How do you handle an old staircase with a turn in it?

By hand, on every step. Treads, risers and the carpeted stringer at each side all take soil differently and none of them can be reached with a machine head sitting flat. It is the slowest part of the job and the most visible afterwards.

Is it worth cleaning carpet in a rental turnover?

Usually, and it is one of the most common calls we take in the county. Tell us the date the unit has to be ready and we will bring air movers so the carpet is dry and walkable in time rather than damp on handover day.

Bob was great. He communicated clearly what the job would entail and was honest about what stains could not be 100% removed. Was happy with the service. The carpets looked brand new again!
