Caldwell is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1892, with 9,027 residents at the 2020 census. Grover Cleveland Birthplace Historic Site and Caldwell Public Library, a 1908 Carnegie library are here. Grover Cleveland was born here in 1837 in the First Presbyterian Church manse, now a museum. An October 1897 fire destroyed much of Bloomfield Avenue and led to the Hasler Building, the borough's first brick building. It borders Essex Fells, North Caldwell, West Caldwell.
