Alpine is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1903, with 1,762 residents at the 2020 census. Palisades Interstate Park and Alpine Boat Basin are here. Formed from part of Harrington Township on April 8, 1903, and named after the Swiss Alps by the wife of journalist Charles Nordhoff. Edwin Howard Armstrong built his FM tower and laboratory here after RCA evicted him from the Empire State Building; the 400-foot tower still carries broadcast and two-way radio users and served as a primary tower for New York stations after the September 11 attacks. It borders Closter, Cresskill, Demarest, Norwood, Rockleigh.
