Bogota is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1894, with 8,778 residents at the 2020 census. Bogota station and Lillian M. Steen School are here. Formed from part of Ridgefield Township by referendum on November 14, 1894 during the "Boroughitis" wave, and reduced the following year when portions were taken to help create the Township of Teaneck. The name honours the Bogert family, the first European settlers in the area, and may blend Bogert with Banta, another early family; it is pronounced unlike Bogota, the Colombian capital, with the stress not on the final syllable. It borders Hackensack, Ridgefield Park, Teaneck.
