Ho-Ho-Kus is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1905, with 4,258 residents at the 2020 census. The Hermitage and Ho-Ho-Kus Inn are here. Created on March 8, 1905 as the borough of Orvil, out of portions of Orvil Township, and reincorporated under the name Ho-Ho-Kus on October 12, 1908. The name is disputed but is most likely a contraction of the Delaware Indian term "Mah-Ho-Ho-Kus", meaning "the red cedar"; residents are called Ho-Ho-Kusites. It borders Hillsdale, Ridgewood, Saddle River, Waldwick, Washington Township.
