Incorporated in 1923 from portions of Randolph Township. Site of the Dickerson Mine, owned by the family of Governor Mahlon Dickerson, once the largest iron ore mine in the area and a major supplier during the American Revolutionary War; mining continued until the late 1960s. It borders Dover, Randolph, Roxbury, Wharton.
