Incorporated in 1872 as North Plainfield Township and renamed Green Brook Township in 1932, after losing land to North Plainfield in 1885 and Watchung in 1926. Washington Rock State Park, set aside in 1913, marks where Washington and Lafayette watched British troop movements in 1777. It borders Bridgewater Township, North Plainfield, Warren Township, Watchung, Middlesex.
