Edgewater is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1894, with 14,336 residents at the 2020 census. Locally it is read by its sections, Undercliff, Edgewater Colony, and a job is quoted on the one you are in rather than on the town line. Incorporated on December 7, 1894 as the Borough of Undercliff, from portions of Ridgefield Township, and renamed Edgewater on November 8, 1899. Its 20th-century industrial shoreline held a Ford assembly plant, Alcoa, Valvoline and the American Can Company; conversion of the 1916 Alcoa site to condominiums was halted for cleanup of PCB contamination, and a Superfund site remains in the south of the borough. It borders Fort Lee, Cliffside Park, North Bergen.
