Incorporated in 1894 as the borough of Riverside during the "Boroughitis" wave that created 26 Bergen County boroughs in that year alone, and renamed River Edge on December 1, 1930. The Steuben House at New Bridge Landing served as George Washington's headquarters for 16 days in September 1780. It borders Hackensack, New Milford, Oradell, Paramus, Teaneck.
