Scotch Plains is a township in Union County, New Jersey, incorporated in 1878, with 24,968 residents at the 2020 census. Watchung Reservation, 1,945 acres, covers the north side of the township. Aunt Betty Frazee House, a colonial-era farmhouse and Stage House Inn, built 1737 are here. Locally it is read by its sections, Alton, Goodmans, Graceland, Two Bridges, Willow Grove, and a job is quoted on the one you are in rather than on the town line. Incorporated in 1878 as Fanwood Township and renamed Scotch Plains in 1917; Fanwood is today a separate adjacent borough. European settlement of the area dates to about 1684. It borders Berkeley Heights, Clark, Fanwood, Mountainside, Plainfield.
