Incorporated from Harrington Township on January 1, 1904, it lost land that March to the newly created Harrington Park, and its rail links to the Weehawken ferry earned it the nickname "Hub of the Northern Valley". It borders Alpine, Demarest, Emerson, Harrington Park, Haworth.
